Seborrhoeic keratosis
Regardless of the alternative name ‘Senile Wart’, they have nothing to do with being senile and they are not warts. More common in people over the age of 40, they are in fact purely a simple build-up of epidermal skin cells which have congregated in an area and established themselves. Affecting the torso mainly, especially the back, they come in various shapes and sizes from very pale all the way through to black and commonly range from a few millimetres to 3 or more inches. Newer Seborrhoeic Keratosis are often skin coloured, slightly raised and easy to treat as they come away from the skin quite easily. However, the older, usually darker and thicker ones have established themselves with time and can be more difficult to remove due to their fibrous attachments. But they all do come away to reveal lovely fresh skin underneath.
Seborrhoeic Keratosis Treatment
As stated above, newer Seborrhoeic Keratosis are easier to treat compared to the older more established ones. The techniques are different depending on their thickness. The basis of the process though involves using a small blunt needle the size of an eyelash which releases heat at its tip. The needle uses diathermy to remove each Seborrhoeic Keratosis. Most newer ones come away like a piece of bubblegum, whereas the thicker more crusty lesions often come off as one scab-like structure. Either way, when I clear an area of a persons skin it literally turns
the clock back as far as the perception of a persons skin condition or age is concerned. After their removal and depending at which stage they had progressed to, scabs may form to protect the areas whilst the natural healing process takes place. Once the scabs drop off after around 7-10 days, the fresh pink skin areas continue to regenerate to leave lovely fresh new healthy-looking skin.
Please note: This treatment is not suitable for those with pacemakers, defibrillators, cochlear ear implants, or women who are, or, could be pregnant. Asian and darker skin types are not treated due to the increased risk of scarring
